George Weldon

A year or two ago I was introduced to some recordings by this conductor, and I am now quite a fan. He had the misfortune to be overshadowed by other more flamboyant artists here in the UK, but his recording of Sleeping Beauty shows him to be a very accomplished conductor. He was popular with orchestras, as he was down-to-earth.

Here is the first of Moszkowski's Spanish Dances in Scharwenka's orchestration, played by the City of Birmingham Orchestra, matrix CAX 9320, Columbia DX 1225, 5th June 1945.
