Constant Lambert

Lambert is best remembered as the first Music Director of what became the Royal Ballet, back in 1930. He also conducted many symphony concerts, but died at the early age of 46, preventing him from perhaps obtaining a full-time post with a major orchestra. He left a selection of rdcordings, many of which are quite rare. Here is a selection from my parents' collection shellac discs.

1. Rimsky: Ivan the Terrible Overture (Liverpool Phil, Columbia DX 1140)

2: Grieg Homage March (Halle, Col. DX 1037)

3 - 6: Purcell, arranged Lambert: Comus Ballet Suite (Halle, Col. DX 1076-7)

7 - 10: Adam, arr. Lambert: Giselle excerpts (Royal Opera House Orchestra, Col. DX 1270-1)

11: Chabrier: Danse Slave (Le Roi Malgre Lui) London Philharmonic, HMV C 3218)

As far as I know, none of these has appeared on CD. Transfers by my friend Norman Field of Birmingham, with very light cleaning up.
